Well, glass has been exist since the beginning of earth trough natural process in a volcano mountain, but, it is said that the glass making was found in the first time in Mesopotamia and Egypt about 4.000 years ago. That’s why glass making is included as an ancient art. On the beginning of glass making era, it didn’t called as an art, glass object was made mostly for personal adornment, for inlays to create decorative scenes on wooden and ivory furniture, and also made into containers to hold precious scented oils in Egypt. Glass was considered as luxury item and was reserved for upper classes at the beginning of its time, such as for pharaoh and nobility.

Now, glass making has become an art in this modern era. One of the techniques in glass making, called glass blowing, is a technique to make a glass as a container such as bottle, plate, bowl, and so on. Glass blower use a long steel pipe to hold the glass material, melt it in a temperature of lava, and blow it to make a bulb of air inside the glass.

You must have heard about it before, right? Or, do you know about stained glass? Well, it looks similar to that one.

Do you know that you can also use a marker to decorate your glass? Of course you can. Just make sure you use a permanent marker so it can’t fade if you wash the glass. You can draw/write anything you like in your glass. It is also the same if you use the paint or you can just dip the bottom of your glass to the paint. Make sure you dry your glass so you can get the beautiful colour!

In this time, We would like to tell you about the history of glass.

We think that it’s sooo cool J

Well, let’s check it out...

At the beginning, glass was naturally formed when the Earth existed. It was a result of rock trickles  which was ossified in a high pressure. A study said that human from earlier age already used it as tools such as a knife and a pan.

At 23-79 BC, a historian from Roman said that glasses was found in an area which is now called Suriah. He said that the people that time used glasses to cook foods.

Many sites stated that many areas in Europe was found glassess materials in 7 BC to 8 BC. This finding was believed as a sign of developong of glasses production in Europe.

How to Keep Your Decorated Glass

Do you find difficulties to keep your decorated glass? If you don’t know what you should do to keep your decorated glass just follows the steps below,

1. Keep your decorated glass in the kitchen set or in the clean place like cupboard. It is done to avoid the dirt and the dust stick in your beautiful glass.

2. If you find dirt or dust in your decorated glass, just wipe it gently with clean cloth or rag. Remember, wipe it gently. Don’t wipe it like you wipe your floor. You should wipe it like you wipe your bf/gf tears. 

3. Make sure you don’t break the decoration of the glass. For example: if your glass is decorated by a thousand of sprinkle like in this picture below. You should wipe it extra gently.

4. It is okay if you wash your decorated glass using the liquid soap to make your decorated glass cleaner. However, you should not directly wash it. Just pour a bit of the liquid soap in the clean cloth/rag. Then slightly wet it. Just wash the inside the bottom of the glass. Remember, wash it carefully and don’t forget to rinse it with wet clean cloth/rag.

5. After you wash your glass, make sure you dry it with clean and dry cloth/rag. It is done to avoid the bubble bubble (stain) like this picture below. It is also done to avoid the mold growing in your decorated glass.

6. If you want to use your decorated glass in your special event. For example, in the candle light dinner (at home not in the classy restaurant) with your beloved family/one or other special events. Make sure you clean it after you use it. This step is also applied in the simple plain glass.

How to Decorate a Glass Bottle

Sometimes we don’t know what to do with glass bottles which are not used anymore in our house. Most of time we just dispose it away, but it’s a waste! We still can use those bottles to decorate our house as a vase or just a decorative things to make our house looks even prettier. And we can make those bottles looks more beautiful to decorate our house!

Here are some steps to decorate your glass bottle:

1. Start by cleaning the bottle! Wash it with soap and water then dry it. We can’t draw or paint on a wet surface.
2. Sketch your pattern for the glass in a piece of paper.
3. Put the paper inside the glass. So, we can trace the pattern to make us easier to draw the pattern without hesitation. If you feel more comfortable to immediately draw the pattern on the glass’ surface then we won’t need the sketch on the paper.
4. Now, we can start drawing or painting the glass bottle! We can use a permanent marker, acrylic paint, or any media which can’t get washed easily with water. We can also stick some beads or other little pretty things, we can also stick some scraps of fabric or some dried plants. Use a kind of glue which is compatible with glass, silicon glue or UHU may work.
5. After paint the glass or stick the decoration on the glass bottle, all we need to do is waiting for the painting to dry. Don’t forget to take out the sketch inside the bottle, and voila~ your glass bottle is become more pretty to decorate your house!

We can also decorates jar, wine glass, plates, cups, mirror, or any utensils made of glass. Decorated glass will definitely makes your house looks more beautiful! Have a try! Good luck!
